My New Band
Okay, so here’s what we’re going to do.  I need three to twenty-seven people, we’ll figure that out later.  It will not only be an awesome band but also an artistic collective, just like that band that was an artistic collective a few years back that had that hit and then possibly killed themselves and rode a spaceship/meteor/asteroid to another galaxy.  You remember them - they...

My Career as a Weatherman
First off, I had no career.  I applied and was never contacted.  When I saw that a local TV station needed a new weather personality, I thought I could probably fill that position.  I know some types of clouds.  I am pretty good as guessing when it is going to rain (or not.  Take today for example - I guarantee it will not rain today).  I also know how to read a map. I can talk about stupid...

Autumn
Whilst working on an article about Congaree National Park earlier today, I couldn’t help but get a little overwhelmed by the coming of autumn.  As our half of the Earth continues its gentle tilt away from the sun, I catch myself filled with a sense of optimism about days to come. There are a few good reasons, of course.  First, it’s cooler, which is great.  I spend a lot of time in...

The Peace Has Been Broken
For the past few months, the cats and the skink have peacefully co-existed.  I liked to believe there was a sort of detente between them.  The cats lived their lives on the air-conditioned, cozy and secure indoor side of the back door and the skink existed in the wild world beyond that door.  Occasionally, they would align on opposite sides of the border and regard one another but the peace held...

Writing Things
So, it appears that I ought to be writing more things.  I do it sometimes but I understand that I should do it more.  I understand that I could even make money writing about things. Occasionally, I tell people that I do a little freelance writing and they seem impressed.  This is like being impressed at a tax accountant or a plumber.  It’s not that those aren’t important positions but...

Good Night, Sweet Princes
And then, there were none. It is with great sadness that I relate the tale of the life and death of one of the finest collections of yard pond fish ever to swim the waters of this earth. When my wife and I originally began setting up our new household, we were delighted to find that there was a garden pond in the back yard.  We drained, cleaned and prepared this magical find and, after much...

The Weather
It is currently raining.  Cats are tucked away somewhere.  Reminds me of traveling to Tokyo.  I think I’ll listen to Aladdin Sane whilst remembering fondly the exploits of Sheriff Lobo and overcoming my deep-seated personal fears regarding flash flooding.  Oh, and then I’ll contemplate the rivalry between VHS and Beta. See previous post.

Something something something.
The problem with blogs is there just isn’t any profit in them unless you have something terribly interesting to say AND have the ability to get what you say out to the masses.  I have considered this and have tried to come up with some fascinating topic around which I could center this blog.  Here are my ideas: 1) Mommy Blog: these are very popular.  Moms, while very busy, do occasionally...

Lost Spin-Offs
1) Also Lost: In another parallel universe, the souls of Frogurt, Randy Nations, Artzt, Kate’s step-dad and Debbie Country/Zoe all have to reconnect so they can get on their own moon rocket to heaven. 2) Oldham!: Bill Sanderson reprises his role as acid cooker and teepee enthusiast Oldham and gets into really weird adventures in the woods.  Occasionally involving: 3) Arron, Too: Needs...

Celebrating the Tube for You
Well hallelujah and whoop-de-doo!  Today is YouTube’s 5th birthday and I am super psyched to wish it all the best. Remember back when you had to wait for the occasional TV show to compile a few ridiculous clips?  Remember when you didn’t have instant access too over 4,000 cat videos a day?  Remember when you just had to fondly remember the Weaver Bird song for Sesame Street? Well, go...

This week on 'The Pacific'
This week on The Pacific, HBO reminded me once again that I would not have enjoyed being a Marine in the Pacific.  Everyone ran out of water and everyone just kept running at the Japanese and a lot of people got shot or blown up.  Also, a goat got pretty screwed over.  Needless to say, Peleliu in 1944 was in no way a magical, tropical paradise. Stay tuned next week for my next installment of...

Charleston
This weekend, I am heading down to Charleston. Charleston is a really old city in South Carolina.  It used to be the capitol but now it is just a city.  People like it a lot more, however, than the real capitol of Columbia.  Other than the presence of a beach, way better restaurants, more stuff to do and the presence of a port, I don’t see what the big deal is.  I mean, ONE WAY STREETS? ...

Buttons
As I get older, I realize that my shirts seem to be losing more buttons.  I seriously have a couple of shirts that are down to TWO buttons. My question is: what happens when one loses ALL of their buttons?

Cats
Cats are truly magical creatures.  They dance, sing and often go swimming. Think about this: Tom Hanks has a cat.  That’s right.  America’s sweetheart, Mr. Tom Hanks.  The man made Philadelphia! Sometimes I wonder exactly what cats are (or one particular cat is) thinking.  Then i remember that, much like jellyfish, cats are simply a collection of cells which respond to stimuli. And...

‘Hootie’ ballet needs kids - Local / Metro - The... →
This is the sort of thing no one really needs.  I thought we were in harsh economic times.  Then again, if you’re really into a Hootie ballet, you’re probably still existing in the more prosperous 90s.  Good work on the time travel. Oh, and i find that headline creepy.  It makes me feel that, should the Hootie ballet keep running, this town will eventually be devoid of children. ...

Blarg
Some people complain that there are too many squirrels.  I do not share this opinion. I like to believe that there are, at any given time, only as many squirrels as are needed.  This is why there are virtually no squirrels at night.  No one needs squirrels at night so mother nature tucks them away. The same goes for sharks.  I NEVER see sharks.  This is because I do not need any sharks.  When I...
